Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature to celebrate and debate Common Wealth and International Women`s Day

The Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature will celebrate and debate the Common Wealth and International Women`s Day on the 9th of March 2010 at the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature Chamber. The theme for the celebration is "Equal Rights, Equal opportunities: Progress for all" "Science Technology and Society"

The Joint Parliament to celebrate the Common Wealth and International Women`s Day is scheduled to take place as follows:

After the celebration a Legislature Sitting will be held whereby MPL`s will debate the Common Wealth and International Day.

Joint Parliament is aims to:

• Educating and sharing information with the citizens of the Province on issues of Common Wealth and International Women`s Day.
• Facilitate participation of citizenry in evaluating progress made in achieving Common Wealth and Millennium Development Goals.
• To celebrate both Common Wealth and International Women`s Day in one gathering.

The thematic areas of discussion are as follows:

• The Millennium Development Goals

• Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
• Achieve universal primary education
• Promote gender equality and empower women
• Reduce child mortality
• Improve maternal health
• Combat HIV/Aids, malaria and other diseases
• Ensure environmental sustainability
• Develop a global partnership for development

• Commonwealth as a platform in bringing socio- economic changes and improvement of quality of life.
