Swearing in of a new member9 July 2012 The Speaker of the Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature has sworn-in Mr Andrias Gamede as a new Member of the Legislature (MPL) today, 09 July 2012. This follows a vacancy created by the resignation of Ms JP Ngubeni-Maluleka, who took up a position in National Parliament. The swearing-in was in accordance with Item 23 of Schedule 1(a) of the Electoral Act, 1998.
Mr Gamede, a member of the African National Congress, is the former Executive Mayor of Mkhondo Local Municipality and Gert Sibande District Municipality and became one of the longest serving mayors in South Africa with a service dating back to 1996 during the then transitional local government. Until recently, he was serving as a councillor of the Gert Sibande Municipality.
His vast political experience and wealth of knowledge will contribute positively towards fulfilling the mandate of the Legislature.
