Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature to attend SADCOPAC Conference29 August 2009 Honourable A.F. Mahlalela the National Chairperson of APAC will lead the South African delegation of parliamentarians to attend a SADCOPAC (South African Development Community Organisation of Public Accounts Committees) conference to be held in Zambia on the 31 August 2009 to 4 September 2009.
SADCOPAC is an organisation of Public Accounts Committees and similar committees of all parliaments belonging to the South African Development Community (SADC). The committee was established in 2003 with the aim of empowering its members to effectively carry out their functions as oversight committees over public sector finances. The SADCOPAC conference is an annual event which is attended by Public Accounts Committees, Auditor General`s and National Treasuries or Accountant Generals.
The theme for this conference is "Enhancing Transparency and Accountability by breaking barriers". The conference will deal extensively with the Role of Public Accounts Committees through networking as well as relationships between Public Accounts Committees and Law Enforcement Agencies involved in the fight against abuse of public power.
National Chairperson of APAC Hon. A.F. Mahlalela will deliver a paper on the "Chalenges posed by legal frameworks on Public Accounts". He will be accompanied by Hon. A.M. Benadie, Hon. S.W. Lubisi and B.T. Shongwe as delegates from Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature.
The Mpumalanga Provincial Legislature hopes that this conference will benefit the Mpumalanga Legislature in is endeavour in ensuring that the Legislature theme: "Working together to intensify oversight to foster service delivery to our people" is achieved or fulfilled.
